There is just no question about it.
For example, when when you ask older people, what is it that you fear most, I would say that Alzheimer's comes up way more than any other issue.
And of course, Alzheimer's and then losing the ability to live independently.
All right.
Well, my response to that always is, well, if that is a concern, especially living independently, what are you doing about it?
What are you doing to prepare for that?
Oh, well, and again, there's this notion that everything's been going well.
And if everything's been going well for the first 65 years, what makes you think that for the next ten or 15, they're going to go as well?
If you've never made any preparations for those next ten or 15 years.
Usually they're not.
In fact, a very interesting survey was done a few years ago in which they asked 70 year olds a whole series of questions.
Okay.
And one question really caught my eye.
I thought it was it was a stupid question.
It was one of those who's buried in Grant's Tomb.
Okay.
But the question was, do you want to live to be 100?
Why or why not?
And I thought, Well, that's a stupid question.
Everybody wants to know.
The vast majority of these people age 70, the vast majority said no.
I mean, it was like, no, really?
No.
And it's like, why?
And the response was, if my quality of life is what it is right now at age 70, taking on average five prescription drugs and another three or four over-the-counter drugs, I can't sleep at night.
I have no energy.
I've got aches and pains, I've got arthritis.
That's my quality of life at 70.
What's it going to be like at 80?
And if I make it through 80 to 90, what's it going to be like at 90?
And there's no way I want to live to be 100 with that kind of a lifestyle.
Okay.
But that's where we are.
Do you have to live that way at 70?
No, of course not.
Take care of yourself.
And as I say, exercise is probably the the closest thing we have to a fountain of youth.
