At 4 years old Phyllis Lawson was taken from the life she knew in Detroit and deposited in rural Alabama with her grandmother Lula Horn, whom she had never met before. In this unfamiliar environment, Phyllis discovered comfort and healing through Grandma Lula and the quilts she created.
