THE WEATHER WAS PERFECT, THE KIDS WERE HAPPY AND WE DID A LOT OF THINGS WE ENJOY.
AND THAT'S IT, FOR 12 SOLID HOURS IT WAS GREAT TO BE ALIVE.
END OF STORY.
THE STRANGE THING IS THAT IN TODAY'S WORLD I KEEP THE GOOD DAYS TO MYSELF BECAUSE I KNOW THE WORLD IS HARD RIGHT NOW, ESPECIALLY HERE IN MINNESOTA.
WHAT IF THE PERSON I'M TALKING TO JUST HAD A FAMILY MEMBER DEPORTED?
WHAT'S IT GOING TO SOUND LIKE WHEN I SAY, OH, THIS CREAM CHEESE DANISH I JUST GOT, YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE IT WAS SO ... IN LIKE THESE HAPPINESS CAN BE, I DON'T KNOW, SOMEWHERE BETWEEN TONE-DEAF AND CRUEL.
THIS IS ONE OF THE FRUSTRATING TENSIONS OF OUR TIME.
I HAVE A GOOD DAY, YOU HAVE AN AWFUL DAY AND TOMORROW EVERYTHING REVERSES.
YOU CAN HEAR THIS IN HOW WE FEEL EACH OTHER OUT CONVERSATIONALLY.
SO, HOW ARE YOU?
GOOD, GOOD, SHOULD I TALK ABOUT MY SKI TRIP?
OH, NOT GOOD, YEAH, I SAW THAT.
TERRIBLE, LET ME KNOW HOW I CAN HELP.
AND THAT'S HOW WE DANCE.
JOY AND SORROW, HAND IN HAND.
I THINK THE ONLY WAY TO MOVE FORWARD IS TO REMIND OURSELVES THAT THINGS ARE JUMBLED.
AND OUR EXPERIENCES AREN'T ALWAYS GOING TO LINE UP.
BECAUSE HERE'S THE REALITY.
NO MATTER HOW ROUGH THE WORLD GETS, GOOD DAYS ARE STILL GONNA HAPPEN SOMETIMES.
AND THAT'S A PRETTY SILLY THING
