Across Indiana hosts a sampling of Hoosier Halloween stories from around the state.
There are of course several stories of hauntings and oddities all over the Hoosier state. In 1992, Across Indiana presented a sampling of those tales. Including a visit to the bottomless lake "The Blue Hole" near Princeton and a stone wall near Terre Haute that is haunted by a young car accident victim.

Michael Atwood here, waiting for some trick-or-treaters to drop by.
And as I mentioned up top, Indiana can be a pretty frightening place to live.
And I'm referring to more than just Indiana politics here, folks.
Yes, it's Halloween, and nothing is better than a few scary ghost stories, but you don't have to travel to some faraway castle or ancient graveyard.
Indiana is home to a multitude of ghosts and hauntings: Hoosier ghost-haunt roads, bridges, lakes, and anywhere else we foolish mortals dare visit.
(wind howling) (thunder booming) (fire crackling) - [Storyteller] Near Princeton, Indiana is the small body of water known by locals as the Blue Hole, one of several like named lakes to be found in the state.
Now, stories abound about the Blue Hole being bottomless and several cars are said to have plunged into the murky waters, never to be seen again.
But on certain evenings, the spirits of those lost in the lake are said to drive dirt roads surrounding the area, perhaps seeking more victims to keep them company.
In nearby Terre Haute, on Fruitridge Avenue, to be exact is a stone wall said in oft repeated stories to be the location of the Face on the Wall.
Now, at one time this wall is said to have contained the carved stone face of a child who was killed by a car right in front of the wall.
Well, the face is now gone, only the stones used to frame it remain.
The spirit of the child is said to cry in the woods surrounding the wall.
Those who hear its cries are doomed to die shortly thereafter.
Or so the tales go.
Just down the road is Terre Haute's Highland Cemetery Ghostly happenings in the form of moving statues are reported by nighttime cruising teenagers.
This statue is supposed to cry at times and tear marks mar it's face, if you look close enough.
Close by is a statue that, when you stand at its base, it's eyes look down to meet yours.
- My favorite ghost story would be the story of the haunted cemetery over here at Boggstown where some of the local residents claim they see the ghost of a dog.
- [Storyteller] Human ghosts are not alone in their hauntings.
Shelby County's Boggstown Cemetery is haunted by a spirit dog.
Mistaken at first for a real dog, those who've seen it are said to have been shocked when the supposedly solid dog slowly fades into the night.
Is there life after death?
Does what make us uniquely individuals somehow survive?
Or are we merely brief candles in the dark ultimately meaning nothing?
As long as these questions remain unanswered, stories of ghosts and their kind will continue to be told in the attempt, once again, to briefly touch the dream time.
