Simple Justice: Suffrage in South Dakota

Special | 28m 45s  | Video has closed captioning.

South Dakota has a unique story in the larger history of the struggle for woman suffrage in the U.S.. The first vote on the question was in 1868 when Dakota Territorial legislators narrowly defeated a full-suffrage bill. A second full-suffrage bill was passed but vetoed by the governor. South Dakotans voted on the question six times, finally recognizing woman suffrage in 1918.
